The City is committed to provide leadership in environmental sustainability.  We understand the rural and natural beauty that is within and surrounds the City.

We hope that this site will help promote citywide resource conservation and efficiency by identifying and gathering various Green standards and incentives that may be offered and are available to our community.

Place all recyclable metals such as clean aluminum foil and pie plates, metal cans of all types (aluminum, steel, tin, bi-metal and empty aerosol cans), pots, pans and other hard objects made out of metal in the designated recycling bins provided by your waste hauler

Continue to pick-up after your pet and toss it in the trash! Do not water down areas with animal waste. Remove soiled bedding and manure at least 3 times per week from stalls, paddocks and/or barns.

Get ready for rainy season before October, trimming back vegetation and pick-up debris and litter in and along drainage areas. Did you know that the drainage swale on your property, man made or natural, is your responsibility to maintain?

Do not hose down hard surfaces such as driveways and sidewalks. Sweeping up residual sediment, leaves and landscaping waste and place within green waste bins to prevent them from being in contact with rain or irrigation water where it can be carried away to the river and/or into a nearby creek.

Clean grease traps at least once a week. Some traps require more frequent cleaning; therefore, adjust as necessary. Do not pour grease into trash bins, street gutters, storm drains or sewers.



Fully completed surveys will be entered into a drawing for an Energy Efficient Cold Water Washer & Dryer for a resident and there will be (2) prizes for local businesses.  $500 for 1st place and a $250 credit on a future energy/water/sewer bill. Survey ends October 1, 2016


* Winners must be a resident or business located within the city limits of Solvang to qualify for the prize.
